While it was fun to explore and I marveled at the scale and breadth of the graphics, I tended to like the more “intimate” missions earlier in the game where it was me skulking around in the shadows, hacking turrets and then striking all at once.Īs I noted in my recent preview, I was surprised at the direction the franchise was taking in relation to the story. It was a massive playing field with tons of enemies running around-I felt like I was in a Halo or Call of Duty level.

You could choose which mission objective you wanted to tackle first, as well as a variety of side missions. One of the biggest surprises was towards the end of the game where you are in one of the largest battlefields ever seen in a Crysis game. Since I tend to miss a lot in these types of games, I opt for the guns that just spit out bullet after bullet-especially when I was able to take control of Ceph weapons later in the game. It might have been because you don’t have that many arrows to choose from and because if you miss, you’re in deep trouble. I was surprised, however, that I almost never used the new Predator bow during the campaign. Unfortunately, the hacking mini-game gets awfully tiresome after you’ve done it twenty or thirty times over the course of a four hour game. I also hacked just about every single turret I could get my hands on, so they would take out nearby enemies. I used it nearly every time just so I could track my enemies’ movements, even if I was running and gunning them. I rarely used the tactical visor in the previous game because it required you to manually mark all enemies. I only customized my weapons when I got sick of how many sniping weapons I tended to pick up on the battlefield, but players who opt for stealth will like how easy it is to put on a silencer. Often, I’d put on my stealth to take out one or two enemies-or run right past them-before applying maximum armor so I could go in guns blazing with full ammo.Ĭustomizing the weapons is quite easy, but you’ll need to make sure you’re in a safe place when you’re doing it, since it doesn’t pause the game when you pull the menu up. Just like in the previous games, you’ll want to toggle between armor and cloak depending on how you play.
